Betty Louise Mattingly, age 97, of Paris, Illinois passed away at 6:20 A.M. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 surrounded by family.
Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with Rosary beginning at 2:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 16, 2023 at St. Mary's Church in Paris. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Betty was born on July 29, 1926 in Edgar County, Illinois to William Stanley and Lissie Mae (Collier) Propst. She married John Edwin Mattingly on February 21, 1946 at St. Mary's Rectory in Paris. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2007.
Betty was telephone operator for General Telephone and later worked for Bridwell's in the meat department. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church and the Altar Society, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
Betty enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events and making angel food cake for family members birthdays and holidays. Above all, she always cared about her family's needs before herself.
She is survived by her children: Cindy (Fred) Gates of Paris, Illinois, Susi Melton (Ted Weber) of Paris, Illinois; her grandchildren: Brian (Lisa) Gates of Summerfield, Florida, Terry and the late Becky Gates of Dennison, Illinois, Wendy Woodard of Mattoon, Illinois; her great grandchildren: Madison (Devin) Stephens, Jacob Gates (Harlee Englum), Caleb Gates (Meredith Rhoads) of Paris, Illinois Haley Gates (Lydia Boerman) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Makayla Gates of Tampa, Florida, Myles Woodard of Marshall, Illinois, Chase Woodard of Mattoon, Illinois; her great great grandchildren: Tinley and Paisley Stephens; and her brother: Robert (Barbara) Propst of Kansas, Illinois.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church.
