Bernard A. Vandivier's Obituary

Bernard A. "Bun" Vandivier age 87 of Chrisman, IL went to be with his wife of 65½ years on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday November 3, 2020 in Franklin Cemetery, burial will also be in Franklin, Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 Pandemic, everyone is asked to wear masks and follow government guidelines.

Visitation will be private.

A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.

Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bernard was a Veteran of the United States Army, he was a special man that touched many people through his years in farming. He started his journey with Stratton Farms, later went on to work for the Chrisman Farm Center. While at the Chrisman Farm Center, Bernard became known as a great mechanic and rescued many a farmer having trouble in the field. When he retired there, he was happy to join the Barrett Brothers and Malfunction Junction.

He loved spending time with his family, especially all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. They always brought out his smile. Bernard has always loved watching Chrisman athletics and was always at any game in town.

He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. When you met Bernard you never forgot him!!

Bernard was born October 24, 1933 in St. Bernice, IN the son of the late Chester and Edith Markwell Vandivier.

He married Jean Savant June 12, 1954 in St. Bernice, IN and she preceded him in death on December 13, 2019.

Bernard is survived by his children: Susie (Rick) Holder of Brocton, IL, Tim (Janet) Vandivier of Chrisman, IL, Brian (Carla) Vandivier of Bement, IL; his grandchildren: Amber (Matt) Davis of Marshall, IL, Kristy (Tony) Preston of Chrisman, IL, Jamie (T.J. Prater) Vandivier of Chrisman, IL, Jenni (Dakota) Cusick of Paris, IL, Tori Vandivier and Michael Vandivier both of Bement, IL; his 8 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Betty Woodard of Cayuga, IN, Bill (Pat) Vandivier of Summerfield, FL, Bob (Frieda) Vandivier of Ridge Farm, IL, and all of their families.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Mooney Woodard.

Since Bernard was an avid supporter of Chrisman Athletics, his family suggests that memorials in his honor, be made to: Chrisman Athletic Booster Club, 23231 IL HWY 1, Chrisman, IL 61924.
