John William Lowe, Sr.

U.S. Veteran

John William Lowe, Sr., age 87 of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 11:44 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012 in Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Indiana.  He retired as a Millwright for General Motors Foundry.  John was a United States Navy veteran of WWII, a member and Past Commander of VFW Post 3601, and a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

Born March 8, 1925 in Brocton, Illinois, John was the son of Lawrence W. and Anna W. (Benton) Lowe.  He married Estello Marie (Richards) Lowe March 30, 1946 in Metcalf, Illinois, she passed away December 25, 2009.

Survivors include two daughters Alicia (Wayne) Driver of Mt. Zion, Illinois and Linda (Jack) Driver of Paris, Illinois, one son John W. Lowe, Jr. of Belton, Texas, one sister Naomi Myers of Marshall, Illinois, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Estello, a daughter Karen Brinkley, a son Glenith Ray, and brothers Lawrence and Lee.

Visitation for Mr. Lowe will be held from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Dixon officiating.

Burial will follow in Newman Cemetery, Newman, Illinois.

Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 211 and VFW Post 3601.

Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to VFW Post 3601 or Sarah Bush Hospice.
