Edith Irene Furry Mehan, 91 of Paris, IL died at the home of her sister Dollie Entrican Thursday July 26, 2012 at 10:58am surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 18, 1920 in Kansas, IL- the daughter of the late Peter A. Furry and Ethel Robinson Furry Douglas.
She was a loving wife, sister and aunt who will be truly missed by her family. She lived in the Chicago area for 50 years and returned back to Paris 20 years ago following the death of her husband John.
At a young age, Irene stepped up to help raise her younger sisters. Irene loved the Lord and her family very much. Throughout her life, she cared for ten dogs, which she treated as family. She loved to read her Bible, crotchet, knit, sew, cook and bake. She enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends (of whom she had a 60 year friendship) and sharing family stories to the younger generations.
She is proceeded in death by her husband John Mehan of Merriville, Indiana, her parents, her brother Earl Jim (Kate Wilson) Furry of Paris, IL, nephew Peter (survived by wife Vera) Furry of Windsor, IL, niece Billie Jean (Bill) Wright of Westville, IL and numerous cousins.
She is survived by her sisters Dorothy (the late Earl “Jiggs” Wilson and Herb) McFarland of Westville, IL and Dollie (the late Olin) Entrican of Paris, IL. Nieces and Nephews: Jim (Pat) Furry of Sycamore, IL, Sharon Rose (Carrol) St. John of Westville, IL, Fonda (John) Radloff of Darwin, IL, Randy Entrican of Chrisman, IL, Jennifer (Mike) Hutson of Paris, IL, Dori (Steve) Allen of Carol Stream, IL, Doyle (Jeanie) Entrican of Paris, IL and Dave Furry of Lebannon, IN. She is also survived by several great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins: Alice Hobson of Paris, IL, Martha Stilabower of Indianapolis, IN, Joyce Sisson of Hume, IL, Wayne Robinson of Indianapolis, IN, Phyllis Fox of Paris, IL and also her beloved Beagle Gracie.
Thank you to the physicians and nursing staff of the UAP Clinic in Terre Haute, IN for the wonderful care you provided. A special thanks to Dr. Rajendra Desai, Dr. Clifford Crawford, Dr. Shashikumar R. H. Gowda, Dr. Suresh Kunapareddy, and Dr. Martin Schmidt Jr.
Thank you to the Lincolnland Hospice for all of the wonderful nursing care and support you provided to Irene during her last days. A very special thank you to nurse Penny Duzan for the compassionate care you provided as Irene transitioned from her home with us into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services at Stewart & Carroll Funeral home in Paris on Tuesday July 31, 2012 from 1-2pm. Graveside services will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Grandview, IL at 2:30pm.
Memorial donations can be made in the honor of Edith Irene Mehan to the E.C.C.F., Inc. D.O. It! Fund or to the Edgar County Humane Association at the funeral home.
